Tutorial: Basic Steps Part 1

Hello!

In the following tutorial I will be teaching you how to do three of the basic steps for the region of Jalisco: Carretilla, Zapateado, and Zepillado.

STEP #1   CARRETILLA

- Two flats with each foot

- Make sure you flex your knees slightly

- Keep your feet completely flat at all times

STEP #2   ZAPATEADO (ZAPATEADO DE TRES)

- Has three parts: Flat, Heel, Flat

- Bring the heel in front of the foot that is doing the flats

- Make sure you flex your knees slightly

STEP #3   ZEPILLADO (TACONEADO)

- Has six parts (sounds): Flat, Scuff, Ball (in) and then Flat, Scuff, Ball (out)

- Make sure that you bring your knee in and the out

- Don't forget to cross the foot that you're bringing in to the other side of the foot that is doing the flats

...AND TAN, TAN!  All you need to do now is practice these steps over and over until you master them.

I hope that you enjoyed and learned valuable information from this tutorial.  If you haven't already, check out my last blog post, "Tutorial: Folklorico Turns."
